Make a list (get what you want)

Are you the type that makes "to-do" lists? Well, me too. It's nice to meet you.

Do you ever add something to the list after it has been completed just so that you can experience the satisfaction of crossing it out after the fact? Well, me too! It's really nice to know you.

I've been making a list every night before I go to sleep so that when I wake up in the morning I won't bumble the day away wondering what I should get at first. I stay away from listing common sense chores like brushing my teeth, wiping, and eating breakfast (reverse the order of operations). I don't need to be reminded of certain things.

On a larger scale, however, I've thought it might be good to make a list of things that I want out of life in general so that I don't bumble my life away.

One of the greatest fears I have is that I'll bumble my life away. I don't want to bumble. Bumbling sucks.

So I've made a new list. I call it the "Get What You Want List." The title is revealing as to the purpose behind the list (list whatever it is that you want out of life) and of course each list's content will differ greatly from person to person.

I thought I'd share my list with you (in picture format) so that it might inspire you to make a list of your own.

If you aren't too bashful, I'd like to know some of the things that are on your list. I've shown you mine, now show me yours.

And don't forget to get what you want, but also, as my friend reminded this week, give what you got. So wise that friend. So wise.

...ramble on...

  1. When you get older they call this a bucket list...I see you don't have them numbered so there is no priority?

  2. They definitely aren't in the order that they'll probably occur. I wrote them out in a stream-of-consciousness kind of fashion so they're mostly prioritized by what's most pressing on my mind right now. Although the 2014 World Cup has an obvious completion date, everything else will transpire naturally, I presume.

  3. A bucket list that a friend passed on to me, I thought you might appreciate it...
“Cherish your solitude. Take trains by yourself to places you have never been. Sleep out alone under the stars. Learn how to drive a stick shift. Go so far away that you stop being afraid of not coming back. Say no when you don’t want to do something. Say yes if your instincts are strong, even if everyone around you disagrees. Decide whether you want to be liked or admired. Decide if fitting in is more important than finding out what you’re doing here. Believe in kissing.”
